Number: Lesson One
Simple numbers: 1-2
The numbers one and two in Arabic behave differently from the rest of simple numbers. They are also the root for several words which are not word numbers.




- The number word (in red) comes AFTER the counted word.
- The dual word shows number through the suffixes (ان / ين).
- The number word AGREES with the gender of the counted word.
- When a feminine word ending in taa-marboutah (ة) is made dual, the (ة) becomes normal taa (ت) and (ان) is added. That is why تفاحة becomes تفاحتان
